Silver Efex Pro 2: Create Stunning Fine Art Black and White Images

Yes, it’s pricey for a plug-in, but you’re rewarded with stunning preset effects, intuitive and effective controls and the ability to achieve striking black-and-white images in a fraction of the Photoshop time. Pro 2 is completely unlike Photoshop. It doesn’t explain how the processes work, concentrating instead on the effect you’re trying to achieve; it encourages you to consider your photos from a pictorial, rather than a technical, viewpoint.
Unbelievable black and white images
The software is fairly easy to learn. I watched one or two free tutorials on the Nik website and dove in. I went back and re-edited many of my favorite images and was very impressed. I use it as a plug-in to LR3 and find it very convenient.
Pro 2 isn’t perfect. Its adaptive adjustments and auto selections can produce unwanted edge effects around objects when you combine a number of strong adjustments, and its Soft Contrast feature can generate ‘glow’ effects in even-toned areas. But these are minor issues, really, compared with the striking effects it puts at your fingertips. Even if you only have a passing interest in monochrome, you’d be a fool not to download the 15-day trial to see what great black and white photography can look like. If you’re already a mono fan, Pro 2 will blow you away.
Silver Efex Pro 2 offers a unique and powerful set of darkroom-inspired features working intelligently alongside the revolutionary U Point technology that enables you to fine-tune your images with precise selective enhancements.
New Features
You’ll get an extra edge with Silver Efex Pro 2. And, the ease of use is what makes this a ‘must-have’ plug in. Whether you use Lightroom, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, or Aperture, this will make your black and whites POP.
Provides all the tweaking one would have to do to convert color images to b&w art.
