Performance Monitors
Monitors aimed at the high-end photography market offer wide-gamut displays. They are able to more accurately display images that have wide-gamut color spaces, such as AdobeRGB and usually have controls that allow a wider range of color and tonal adjustments than the automated controls on consumer monitors. The brands most often associated with high-performance displays are Apple, Eizo, LaCie and NEC.
Apple Thunderbolt 27 Inch
A couple of years ago, Apple introduced Cinema Display monitors that used a DispiayPort adapter. The latest Thunderbolt displays are the next chapter in that adapter story. Thunderbolt is the new multi-protocol connector that will support simultaneous, bidirectional data (hard drives) and display (monitors) communication. It works at 10 gigabits per second, which is 20 times faster than USB 2.0. The latest Macs come with Thunderbolt ports, so the latest Apple Thunderbolt Display is a natural fit.
NEC Multisync PA271W
The NEC MultiSync PA271W is a 27-inch widescreen LCD display with a native resolution of 2560 x 1440, It will display 92 percent of the AdobeRGB gamut. Included is a SpectraView color calibration kit made up of a monitor sensor and software.
LaCie 324i
The LaCie 324i will display 98 percent of AdobeRGB gamut. The widescreen 24-inch display has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200. This monitor can be purchased a la carte, or as a bundle that also includes a snap-on hood and LaCie’s Blue Eye colorimeter and software for calibration.
Eizo FlexScan SX2762W
The Eizo FlexScan SX2762W is a 27-inch monitor with 2560 x 1440 native resolution. It is capable of displaying 97 percent of the Adobe RGB colour space. The monitor can be purchased by itself or bundled with Eizo EasyPix calibration kit made up of a monitor sensor and software.
